Information about the flu and coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines to help protect you from serious illness this winter

When will I be invited?

Flu and coronavirus vaccines will be offered to those eligible from mid-September onwards. It’s strongly recommended you get vaccinated if you’re eligible this winter. Invitations for people who are eligible are now being sent. You may receive your invitation at a different time than previous years. You should attend the appointment you’ve been given, or make or rearrange your appointment as soon as possible.

The postal invites will arrive in white envelopes with clear NHS Scotland branding. People with a digital preference will receive their vaccine appointment or prompt to book by text and/or email.

Please do not try to make an appointment until you’ve been invited by NHS Scotland.

Who will be offered the vaccines?

You’ll be offered flu and coronavirus vaccines this winter if you’re:

  • living or working in a care home for older adults
  • aged 65 and over
  • aged 6 months and over with an eligible health condition
  • pregnant
  • a frontline health or social care worker

If you need to book or rearrange a vaccine appointment for children under 12 years, you should call the number on your child’s letter.

You’ll be offered the flu vaccine if you’re:

  • aged 18 to 64 with an eligible health condition
  • living with someone who has a weakened immune system
  • an unpaid or young carer
  • a non-frontline NHS worker
  • a poultry worker
  • an asylum seeker living in a home office hotel or B&B accommodation
  • experiencing homelessness or substance misuse
  • living in a Scottish prison
  • living in long-stay residential care home or other long stay care facility

Online booking portal

You can log in to book using your unique username and password. This is the same as you had for your previous doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

You can rearrange your appointment if the time or day doesn’t suit you.

Appointment availability

If you’ve been allocated an appointment please try to attend. If you aren’t able to attend, please rearrange or cancel to free up the date and time for somebody else.

If you’re trying to rearrange your appointment online and there are no vaccination appointments available, please check again later as new appointments continually become available.

There are evening and weekend vaccination clinics available. If it’s more convenient, you can book or rearrange your appointment to a vaccination clinic closer to where you work or somewhere you visit regularly.

The national vaccination helpline will be unable to offer alternative appointments as they use the same online booking system.

If you’re ill on the day

You no longer need to wait for a specific amount of time after confirmed coronavirus infection to have your vaccine. However, if you’re unwell, wait until you’ve recovered to have your vaccine. You should not attend an appointment if you have a fever, diarrhoea or vomiting, or think you might be infectious to others.

What if I’ve never logged in before?

Even if you have never logged in before, you can find your username on your appointment letter or by using the ‘Get your username’ option.

You can then set up a password by selecting the new user option to register.

How do I rearrange my appointment?

If you can’t find a suitable appointment, please keep checking as new ones are added regularly.

Can I book by phone instead?

The easiest way to book an appointment is online. It takes just a few minutes.

You can phone the national vaccination helpline on 0800 030 8013 if you wish to book your appointment over the phone. The helpline has access to the same appointments as the online booking portal. It’s open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.

How do I recover my username and password?

If you’ve lost or forgotten your username, you can recover it by selecting the ‘Get your username’ option.

If you’ve lost or forgotten your password, you can recover it by selecting the ‘Forgotten your password’ option.
